Pirouettes, leaps, and shuffles will all be in the limelight at Atholton’s last dance concert, “The Greatest Show.” The dance concert will take place on Friday, May 4 at 7:00 pm and Saturday May 5 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Dances I-IV, Junior Dance Company, and Senior Dance Company will all be taking part in this concert. Ballet, modern, jazz, and tap are just some of the types of dances that audience members can expect.

The dancers put a lot of time and effort into perfecting their crafts and getting ready to perform to the best of their ability.

“Every class we practice our dances,” said junior Sarah Propst, a Senior Dance Company dancer. “Then, the week of the concert we stay after school everyday really late to rehearse in the auditorium.”

Members of Senior Dance Company have prepared self-choreographed pieces that will “stun the crowd,” said Propst. According to junior Erin Duncan, Dance II is “preparing a really fun tap dance that is gonna be really fun for the audience.”

This dance concert also marks the last dance concert for the seniors graduating this year. To commemorate their hard work, dedication, and friendship, a presentation dedicated to each senior is presented at the end of the 7:00pm Saturday show. The presentation consists of all the non-senior dancers recording “heartfelt” messages for the seniors to watch for the first time.

The Dance Department also has a surprise for the audience. “Every year we do a surprise thing for the finale and it’s really fun to see the audiences reaction,” said Propst.

Surprises and of course, dancing are just some of the things to be expected at “The Greatest Show.” To find out all the other fun, unique things the Dance Department has in store, bring $8 for an entry fee.
