Atholton Adventist Academy stands as a beacon of Christ-centered learning in Columbia, Maryland. In 2026, the school is pushing forward with exciting plans that blend faith, academics, and modern growth. A Rich History of Growth Atholton Adventist Academy started small back in 1958. It opened with just one teacher and 13 students in a single classroom, driven by parents who wanted a strong Christian education for their kids. Today, it serves over 230 students from pre-K3 to grade 12, with 32 staff members including 21 teachers. The school focuses on helping children grow in faith, smarts, and social skills, all while keeping Jesus at the center. Families from Howard County and nearby areas trust Atholton for its safe and nurturing space. This steady growth shows how the academy has met community needs for decades. Key 2026 Updates and Milestones The biggest news for Atholton Adventist Academy in 2026 comes from late 2025. On November 30, 2025, it earned Senior Academy Candidacy Status from the North American Division Adventist Accreditation Association. This green light means the school can expand its high school program to include grades 11 and 12 fully on-site. Before this, upper grades partnered with Griggs International Academy, but now Atholton is stepping up independently. Principal Miya Kim calls it a commitment to top-notch, mission-focused learning. The academy did years of studies, surveys, and number-crunching to prove families want this option, especially since many leave for high school elsewhere. New Facilities for Better Learning To match this growth, Atholton Adventist Academy is building a new Early Childhood Learning Center. It will have three classrooms, better storage, and clear sections for early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school wings. Construction aims to finish by the 2026-27 school year. These changes will boost space and create smoother daily routines for everyone. This project fits the school's push to handle more students while keeping small class sizes that let teachers truly know each child. It's all about creating spots where kids can shine. Programs That Build the Whole Child Atholton Adventist Academy offers a full lineup from pre-K to high school. Core classes cover Bible, English, math, science, history, languages, PE, and more, all taught with a Christian view. High school starts strong in grade 9 with subjects like Algebra, Biology, and Spanish. Grades 10 builds on that, and now with the expansion, 11 and 12 will offer deeper college-prep paths right at home. Beyond books, kids lead in student groups, chapel tech, and events. The school stresses character, leadership, and service, prepping them for life and eternity. Grade Level Key Subjects Special Features Pre-K3 to Elementary Bible, Math, Reading, Science, PE Hands-on play, faith stories, small groups for personal growth Middle School (6-8) English, History, Algebra, Spanish Leadership roles, team projects, daily chapel High School (9-12) Biology, Geometry, World History, Bible II College prep, Griggs partnership ending soon, on-site expansion by 2026-27 This table shows how Atholton Adventist Academy tailors learning at each stage. It keeps faith woven in while building real-world skills. Accreditations and Quality Standards Parents in the UK, USA, and Canada look for trusted schools. Atholton Adventist Academy holds accreditations from the North American Division, National Council for Private School Accreditation, and Middle States Association. These stamps mean high teaching standards and safe spaces. Reviews from students praise the caring staff and balanced focus—not too social, but packed with chances to grow. For families moving from Canada or the UK, this setup matches what they expect: solid academics with heart. Tuition is flexible and affordable, making it open to more homes. Why It Appeals to UK, USA, and Canada Families In the USA, especially Maryland, Atholton Adventist Academy fills a gap for faith-based high schools. Local parents surveyed said they'd keep kids enrolled with full grades 11-12, avoiding far-off options. Canadian families often seek strong Christian schools with global values. Atholton's Seventh-day Adventist roots align with that, offering Bible daily and service trips that build worldly wisdom. From the UK, where private education is common, parents value the accreditations and small sizes. It's like a cozy independent school but with eternal focus—perfect for expats in the US. The academy welcomes diverse students and staff, creating a family feel. This draws international minds who want kids to thrive anywhere. Tech and Innovation in 2026 Looking to 2026, Atholton Adventist Academy eyes future-ready tools. While rooted in faith, it adds computer classes, online partnerships, and hands-on science to prep for tech jobs. The new buildings will have modern setups for blended learning. Think interactive screens in small classes, helping kids from USA tech hubs or Canada’s innovation scenes feel at home. Principal Kim stresses mission-driven tech: using tools to spread kindness and truth, not just skills. This vision keeps the school ahead without losing its soul. Community Support and Stories Growth like this doesn't happen alone. Atholton Adventist Academy thanks its church, parents, and Chesapeake Conference for backing the push. Alumni often return with thanks, saying the school shaped their values even if they didn't see it then. One shared how it built resilience through tough times. In 2026, events like open houses will invite USA, Canada, and UK visitors to see the changes. It's a chance to join a community investing in kids' futures. Challenges Met with Faith No school path is smooth. Atholton Adventist Academy faced feasibility checks and nearby rivals but used data to prove its need. Past hurdles like tough years built teamwork. Staff and families leaned on prayer, turning obstacles into steps forward. This grit inspires parents seeking steady schools amid 2026's changes, from AI shifts to global moves. A Vision for Eternity Atholton Adventist Academy's 2026 plans shine bright. With Senior Academy status, new buildings, and strong programs, it leads in faith-filled education. For UK, USA, and Canada families, it's a top pick: accredited, affordable, and future-focused. Kids leave ready as thinkers, leaders, and believers. The road ahead promises more growth, always with Christ first. Atholton Adventist Academy isn't just teaching—it's shaping tomorrow.
