Women’s Rights Stripped Across America

Roe v Wade was thriving for nearly 50 years. 50 years of legalized abortion, 50 years of choice, 50 years of freedom. Countless years of free decision murdered after Roe v Wade was overturned in June 2022 after being in writing since 1973.  After years of abortion being a personal decision, it’s now a state’s decision.

States began placing laws that limit abortion access; many have enforced a near-total ban of abortions. Just two days after Roe v Wade was overturned, Arkansas put a near ban abortion, with little exceptions. This law was upheld by an 1864 law that states abortion is illegal unless the mothers life is in danger.

Arkansas’ actions soon would be followed by Alabama, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and on April 9th changing from 15 week abortion law to near-total ban is Arizona.

So why is this new ban applying in states, and why is it a problem? Abortion has always been a debate of morality. Many people believe every human has a purpose and therefore unborn babies should fulfill its potential future by becoming born.

Eventually, new appointments were made into the Supreme Court, making the court majority conservative, which led to the overturn of Roe v Wade. This is when the legal decision about abortion was put into States hands, consequently, Women’s Rights are now set back years.

Before 2021, Women’s Rights were living freely. They were allowed to access abortions at any time, but now the right has been stripped from them. The body is a person’s  property and Women’s Rights should not be an exception, they should have the right to choose to have an abortion because it is fundamentally about bodily autonomy and the freedom that comes with it.

The decision to continue or terminate a pregnancy is a personal decision that is made with multiple factors in mind. By allowing Women’s Rights to make decisions about their own bodies and futures, society acknowledges Women’s Rights and their life.

Upholding the right to choose is essential for gender equality, and the protection of Women’s Rights fundamental human rights. Not all Women’s Rights want kids and they should have the government to support that decision.

Many Women’s Rights have to pay bills, have to pay for their car, have to pay for groceries, and their chances of accomplishing this lowers when supporting a child. Having a kid in 2024 is pricey, just giving birth in a hospital is anywhere from $5,000-$11,000, according to data collected by Fair Health.

After their birth, a presumed 18 years follows, costing, according to Business Insider, $306,000. This hefty number does not include sports, daycare, or education. Including all potential cost factors, raising a child for one year costs $17,000.

The average person who makes $59,000 a year, according to USA Today.. Raising a child while paying bills,  paying for gas, and paying for food is hardly affordable with that income, which can put people into poverty. Being in poverty endangers people, lack of money can lead to  unhygienic homes, malnourishment, and water scarcity.

Women’s Rights are in danger, they’re scared, they’re losing hope, a similar feeling felt years ago in 1972 and many years prior. It seems as if we’re moving backward in time, and fast. Just on April 30th Florida placed a 6 week ban, a time limit when Women’s Rights normally don’t even notice they’re pregnant until the 6 week mark. This is becoming a slippery slope which only has one ending, a bad one.
