A tornado touched down in the Appleton metro area around noon, causing widespread destruction across multiple locations and prompting a large-scale emergency response from local and mutual aid units.
What the storm left behind
The damage was immediate and severe. A building at 1000 South Perkins, the Miller Electric facility, collapsed with people reported trapped inside. A school bus became stuck under downed power lines at the intersection of Prospect and Bartells, with occupants told to remain inside while emergency crews worked to reach them. Responders reported difficulty accessing the scene due to blocked roads and ongoing hazards.

Highway 10/441, between US-41 and Highway 47, saw multiple semi-trucks blown over, with several other vehicles affected across the corridor. A structure fire was reported at 1043 Eldorado, and a tree came down on a vehicle near College and Perkins, requiring extrication. A separate incident on Richard and Spring involved a power line landing on a vehicle with a person trapped inside.
Racine Street was reported completely blocked, complicating access for emergency crews across the area.
The response spreads beyond Appleton
A Mutual Aid Disaster card was activated for the Neenah-Menasha area, bringing in multiple fire and rescue departments to support overwhelmed local units. Reports also indicated that at least one warehouse had been completely destroyed, though its exact location had not been confirmed at the time of initial reports.
The storm was tracked moving southeast into Calumet County following its path through the Appleton metro, raising concerns about further damage in that region.
Residents in the affected areas were urged to stay off roads to keep them clear for emergency vehicles. Conditions remained active and the full scope of damage was still being assessed as crews worked multiple scenes simultaneously.
