Sports movies are always a good choice if you want to get inspired and see a good story or if you just want to laugh.
5. Kicking and Screaming
A dad fills in as coach for a terrible youth soccer team and faces his own father in the championship.
This movie is at number 5 because it is a very funny movie with decent acting, but that does not take away from the movie. It stars Will Ferrell as a soccer dad- a perfect combination. Hammond High School freshman Kevin Berry said “I think Will Ferrell portraying a soccer dad is spot on and funny.’’
I would give this movie a 7 out of 10. It doesn’t need to be in a top 5 all time movies, but it is an amusing sports movie .
4. The Sandlot
How could this not be in a top 5 sports movie? This movie is an all time classic. It’s about a group of kids that play baseball together and lose a baseball signed by Babe Ruth. They have to get it back from a mysterious beast. The acting is a little bit corny but it adds to the humor of the movie. “It’s very funny and has lots of different types of scenes that make you want to watch it a bunch of times’’ said Chase Endres, a freshman at Hammond.
I give this movie an 8 out of 10
3. Miracle
This is a great movie. It is a true story about a bunch of college kids who play for the USA Olympic hockey team in 1980. They have to beat the USSR, a long time hockey championship team. This movie has really good pacing; it shows the team bonding, progressing, and starting to win hockey games. This movie is super inspiring and a good story. Andrew Marr a Freshman at Atholton says “I liked the acting quality, how the movie implements moments of suspense, and also how it implements feel good moments.’’
I give it a 9 out of 10.
2. 42
This movie is a true story about Jackie Robinson and his journey through the MLB as the first African American Major League baseball player. Racial tensions were very high in the 40’s and 50’s and this movie shows how bad racism was and how Jackie was able to persevere. It also has great actors with Harrison Ford and the late Chadwick Boseman. Eli Glenn a Freshman at Reservoir says, “I like how it showed how challenging it was for an African American man to have a big career in the 40’s and 50’s.’’
I would give this movie a 10 out of 10 and would definitely recommend it.
- Ford vs Ferrari
Just barely edging out 42, this movie is a true story about car designer Carol Shelby. He was hired by Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca to build a Ford GT40 with the potential to beat the Ferrari racing team in the famous Le Mans race in France. This movie’s soundtrack and racing scenes will have you out of your chair! It stars Matt Damon and Christan Bale. It will also give you a great perspective on how important it was for Ford and for America to beat Italy and the Ferrari racing team. Paul Hughes, a Freshman at Hammond says “I like how they present the movie. It shows how determined the United states was to compete at Le Mans. Also liked how they presented convincing Ford to make a racecar to beat the Ferrari racing team.’’
I give this movie a 10 out of 10 and would definitely recommend watching it.
Nice job! I don’t normally watch a lot of sports movies, but I’ll definitely be watching some of these!
