Eric Bieniemy’s Wife Shot at Virginia Home, Son Arrested and Charged

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy left training camp Monday after his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was shot multiple times at the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday night.

Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized in stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest and arm. Loudoun County police confirmed a woman had been treated for serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds, though they did not publicly identify her.
The arrest
The couple’s son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at a detention center in Loudoun County.
The shooting occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
Where Eric Bieniemy was
At the time of the incident, Eric Bieniemy was in St. Joseph, Missouri, with the Chiefs for the team’s second day of training camp at Missouri Western State. He left camp and was absent from Monday’s practice.
The Chiefs released a statement Monday morning confirming they were “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family” but offered no further details.
What comes next
No timeline has been given for Bieniemy’s return to camp. With the Chiefs deep in their preseason preparation, the organization is expected to give him whatever time he needs as his family works through what is an extremely difficult situation.
